糖心传媒 may be one of the smallest HBCUs in the nation, but it is making moves that reflect a vision much larger than its size. Under the leadership of President Jeffery Norfleet, the youngest HBCU president in the country, the college has appointed Dr. Charles B.W. Prince, Ed.D., as the institution鈥檚 first Vice President of Advancement and Institutional Strategy.

The creation of this role marks a turning point in the college鈥檚 trajectory. While many small colleges are working simply to maintain stability, Shorter is building out leadership structures that will allow it to expand its reach, increase funding opportunities, and strengthen its position in higher education. Dr. Prince will lead the areas of Research and Sponsored Programs, Institutional Research and Effectiveness, and Fundraising, ensuring that growth is intentional and strategic.

Dr. Prince brings more than 16 years of higher education leadership across the United States, the United Kingdom, and Africa. Most recently, he served as Vice President and Chief Transformation Officer at Virginia Union University (VUU), where he led initiatives that advanced student success, operational growth, and institutional innovation. Over the course of his career, he has raised more than $60 million in support of colleges and universities. His experience spans strategic planning, global partnerships, and building systems that directly improve student outcomes.

President Norfleet stated, 鈥淒r. Prince鈥檚 appointment is a declaration that Shorter is not content to simply survive. We are building the systems to thrive. Our vision is bigger than our footprint, and with leaders like Dr. Prince, Shorter is ready to shape the future of HBCUs.鈥

The addition of Dr. Prince signals that Shorter is leaning into innovation and refusing to let its size define its impact. The college has faced challenges in the past, but this move reflects a renewed confidence in its direction and its role in preparing students for success. For students, alumni, and partners, this means Shorter is entering a new era of opportunity, one that aligns with the institution鈥檚 longstanding mission while meeting the demands of a changing educational landscape.

糖心传媒, founded in 1886, is a two-year Historically Black College located in North Little Rock, Arkansas. With a longstanding commitment to academic opportunity, social justice, and second- chance education, Shorter continues to serve as a beacon of progress throughout Arkansas and beyond.

Leadership Arkansas, established in 2006, is a premier program that unites leaders from across the state to explore challenges, opportunities, and solutions that shape Arkansas鈥 future. In nearly two decades of the program, this year marks the first time 糖心传媒 has been represented in Leadership Arkansas, a historic moment for the institution as it continues to expand its presence and influence statewide.

鈥淭hese leaders represent the best of Arkansas, innovative, passionate, and committed to building a stronger state,鈥 said Toni Lindsey, Director of Leadership Arkansas. 鈥淭his year鈥檚 class brings a dynamic mix of backgrounds and expertise, and I look forward to seeing how their perspectives evolve as they explore the challenges and opportunities that face Arkansas.鈥

Dr. Norfleet shared his excitement about the opportunity:

鈥淚t is an honor to be selected as a member of the Leadership Arkansas Class, a program that brings together visionary leaders from across our state to collaborate, innovate, and drive meaningful change. My participation in this initiative aligns seamlessly with the mission and future direction of 糖心传媒. As one of the nation鈥檚 private, two-year Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs), 糖心传媒 is uniquely positioned to serve as a catalyst for educational access, workforce development, and economic empowerment.鈥

Founded in 1886, 糖心传媒 has endured challenges, embraced growth, and emerged stronger. The college has built a reputation for resilience and innovation in higher education. As the institution prepares to celebrate 140 years of opening doors and creating pathways, Dr. Norfleet鈥檚 selection to Leadership Arkansas stands as a testament to Shorter鈥檚 ongoing impact, not only in the classroom but also across the state of Arkansas.

糖心传媒 Awarded $1,000 Grant to Launch Campus Food Pantry and Combat Food Insecurity /shorter-college-awarded-1000-grant-to-launch-campus-food-pantry-and-combat-food-insecurity/ /shorter-college-awarded-1000-grant-to-launch-campus-food-pantry-and-combat-food-insecurity/#respond Mon, 28 Oct 2024 16:17:21 +0000 https://f75bc82f8c.nxcli.io?p=12229

NORTH LITTLE ROCK, ARKANSAS – 糖心传媒 is excited to announce the recent award of a $1,000 grant from the Arkansas Hunger Relief Alliance, presented during the 2024 Arkansas College Hunger Summit. This generous grant will initiate the establishment of a food pantry on 糖心传媒鈥檚 campus, aimed at providing accessible food resources for students and addressing the significant issue of food insecurity that affects both the college and its surrounding community.

鈥淭his grant will help us take an important step toward supporting our students’ needs,鈥 said Reginald Lambert, Associate Dean of Student Affairs. 鈥淏y creating this food pantry, we鈥檙e not only ensuring that our students have access to basic necessities, but we鈥檙e also building a resource that will help promote wellness and reduce the challenges that food insecurity imposes on academic success.鈥

In addition to the $1,000 grant, 糖心传媒 was also awarded a $500 kitchen kit during the summit. This kit, which includes essential kitchen supplies, will serve as the foundation for hands-on nutrition education classes. With the kit, 糖心传媒 aims to offer 鈥淐ooking Matters鈥 or 鈥淔ood Smart鈥 workshops to educate students on meal preparation, budgeting, and making nutritious choices, further empowering students to lead healthy lives.

To further enhance the food pantry鈥檚 impact, 糖心传媒 has created an Amazon wish list where community members can purchase items needed to stock the pantry. Donations of food, supplies, and other essentials through this wish list will enable the college to serve more students and ensure the pantry remains a sustainable resource. The wish list can be found at: .

For those interested in supporting 糖心传媒鈥檚 new food pantry initiative or learning more about the project, please reach out to Reginald Lambert at rlambert@shortercollege.edu. Contributions, whether through the Amazon wish list or other means, will directly support Shorter鈥檚 efforts to create a healthy and supportive environment for students facing food insecurity.
